U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has expressed criticism towards the state of Minnesota regarding its handling of Abdimahat Bille Mohamed, a convicted serial rapist and immigrant from Somalia. Mohamed, who entered the United States legally during the Obama administration, is currently charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman over several days in a hotel room in September 2024.

Bondi highlighted that Mohamed had previously received lenient treatment from state courts in two earlier rape cases, including one involving a child. She stated that despite being convicted of these offenses, he was allowed to remain on probation, which she described as a failure of the judicial system.

Following his latest arrest, Mohamed is now in federal custody, and the Justice Department is pursuing additional charges related to his past crimes, including the 2017 case. Bondi indicated that further charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.
