Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has been accused by his sister, Ann Altman, of sexually abusing her during their childhood. The allegations, which include claims of repeated sexual abuse from 1997 to 2006, were made in a lawsuit filed on January 6, 2023. Ann Altman asserts that the abuse occurred multiple times per week when she was three years old and Sam was twelve, while the family resided in Clayton, Missouri.

In response to the lawsuit, Sam Altman and his family issued a statement categorically denying the allegations, describing them as 'utterly untrue.' The family expressed concern for Ann's wellbeing, indicating that she has faced mental health challenges. They stated that caring for a family member with such issues can be difficult and that they have previously attempted to support her through financial assistance and medical help.

Ann Altman has previously made allegations against her brother on social media, claiming a history of various forms of abuse from her siblings, including Sam. In a post from November 2021, she suggested that others may have also been victimized and expressed a desire for legal justice and healing. Her legal representatives have indicated that her mental health struggles are linked to the alleged abuse.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Eastern District of Missouri, seeks a jury trial and damages exceeding $75,000. The Altman family maintains that Ann has rejected conventional treatment options and has responded negatively to their attempts to assist her.
