A survey conducted by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) reveals that following the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, a significant number of college students report feeling less comfortable attending controversial events and expressing their opinions in class.

The survey, which included responses from 2,028 undergraduates nationwide, found that approximately half of the students felt a chilling effect on their willingness to engage with controversial topics. Dr. Sean Stevens, Chief Research Advisor at FIRE, noted that the incident has exacerbated ideological divisions between liberal and conservative students. While moderate and conservative students have become less supportive of disruptive tactics to silence speakers, liberal students' support for such actions has remained steady or even increased.
